same thing last year.... Posted by Savary [Email] (#1273) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Savary) on Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:00:32 In Reply to: My 2000 Aero was totaled, bobc [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 23 Jun 2015 14:47:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I totaled my 2002 120k Aero wagon in NC last year. I backed into a well at my father- in-law’s place.
I’ve been driving by that well for 7 years, but one day I fn went right up over it in reverse.
Back then I had so many other things going on that I couldn’t devote any time to arguing with my insurance company. So I didn’t really bargain.
We have NC Farm Bureau Insurance. I’ve been with them for over ten years. I had substantial upgrades like forged pistons and ETS inner cooler,
stainless exhaust, etc., which I didn’t tell the insurance adjuster about, because I thought he might think I was a hotrodder. However, I did tell him that I rebuilt the engine recently and provided receipts.
They offered me $4800 if they kept the car, and $4400 if I kept the car. So I kept it.
My wife and father-in-law thought I was crazy for not letting them take the car, until I explained to them that 80% of the items on their estimate didn’t need to be replaced.
I got it back on the road for about $700. I think FB’s estimate was $3200. So I made about $3700 on the deal, although my rate went up.
I spent $200 in used suspension parts and $500 in body/paint work. My lab tech’s neighbor is a pro body guy that takes side work. So that’s where I saved all the money. If you keep your car, you got to find someone that does body work on the side. I don’t think finding fenders and doors in the same color from salvage yards is realistic? But maybe it is. car-part is great, just have to talk to someone on the phone.
