Hi all,
I've gone through some archives, did some fault tracing and still cannot figure out why both of the cooling fans do not work on my 2005 9-5 Arc auto.
Some background:
Bought it used for my son with not much history. Immediately began complete maintenance once over.
Cooling system work- new water pump, new thermostat, new radiator (was partially clogged), new temperature sensor, new coolant, all new hoses.
Started the car yesterday after a month of work. Ran it for about 10-15 min. Cooling fans didn't engage.
What I know:
-AC compressor runs constantly (no cold air inside). AC worked somewhat before I took everything apart (to include dropping subframe).
- checked all fuses (1, 6, 15) and all three relays. Replaced relays with spare used ones- no go.
- if I pull relay 396 or 155 and short pins 30 and 87- fans run on either low or high speed without ignition on. Assuming wiring is ok from the relay box to the fan.
- WIS says DICE will run RH fan if there is no signal from the temperature sensor. So I disconnected the sensor and RH runs as soon as I start the car. DICE is ok and working properly? Wiring ok from DICE to fans?
I know my AC system is probably discharged. When car runs on ACC Auto- RH fan doesn't run even when AC clutch is engaged. I think WIS says RH fan should run when AC is on...but maybe no pressure in the system to engage the fan?
Maybe my new thermostat is stuck open? Upper radiator hose is not very firm when car runs, I can squeeze it little bit, and it's not crazy hot.
I really do not want to run the engine for too long to see maybe it didn't get warm enough for fans to start?
My next step is to connect/disconnect DICE, clean ground. After that- I'm at loss. Sorry for the long post. Please post your suggestions.
As usual, thanks to this board for the wealth of info!
