Plastic gets hard and brittle and if you don't get the stop arm to slide up all the way on the sleeve and then try to force the motor shaft in, it might break off that tab since it is pointing down into the hole stopping you from getting the motor in.
It's tight spaces, little visibility and a matter of running the calibration mode wiggling the motor back and forth hoping to find the sweet spot where it slides in and all of that works against you.
