These are no secrets and have plagued the industry more since they went over to rigid plastic lines instead of rubber hoses. All in the name of science and improvements.
There are a lot of cases of broken pipes but when it happens on the "right" side of any of the two valves, you hardly notice anything except maybe rough idle.
It's when it breaks on the "wrong" side of the valve you loose power brake boost.
I have warned DIY people to be careful when replacing heater bypass valves or thermostats to not wrestle or touch that pipe. Best is to pop it off the booster and carefully remove it while working down there.
On the new 9-3 model, the pipe runs close to the oil filter so you have to be careful not to bend it when extracting the oil filter but even so, the pipe break all by itself from vibrations. Luckily though, it is after the mechanical brake vacuum pump so it does not affect the power brakes.
Checking that pipe is part of the oil change ritual for me.
