Yes, I found the crimp and associated environmental splice next to impossible to remove. After I started, I wondered if there was really any kind of galvanic reaction going on inside the crimp (who knows) or if not some kind of build up on the edge connectors.
I'm a technician, not an engineer. I will say that I've often encountered this type of problem with circuit cards that cost thousands of dollars where the fix is to disconnect and reconnect (or remove and re-insert) the card or connector.
There's a term called "fretting". I won't say this is definitely the cause, but removing and reconnecting the connector is so easy I wished I had tried it first. And to be honest, you have to disconnect the connector anyway.
In my memory of "hard to complete tasks", re-doing this crimp is all that difficult, more brain stressful. I kept thinking, "man there's a lot of wires, hope I don't cut the wrong one" and "what a spaghetti mess, thank the lord for color coding".
