So I got off easy with one bolt hole; there were still good threads near the bottom so I only had to use a longer bolt. The other hole, directly under the fuel lines at the firewall end of the bracket, needed the helicoil. Since the bolts are M10x1.5, I first tried an 11/32 or 8.4mm drill bit, according to several online charts and local hardware store. However, that bit didn't even touch the sides of the hole; I think the hole had been worked on before. So I moved up to a 13/32 bit since the 3/8 just scraped the sides. Drilled that and had to move up to a M12x1.5 tap. Used an 8mm 12-point wrench to turn it since it was too tight to fit the T-handle and I couldn't find an extension for the tap to bring it above the fuel lines. The threading process was slow but turned out ok. Some of the shavings got onto the serp belt so I'll have to take it off to clean. The helicoil was easy to rotate and insert using a screwdriver against the tang. Now the helicoil I had was for the original M10 bolt and it easily went into the hole tapped by the M12 tap. But the bolt itself is a little loose in the hole and it may or may not hold under 36 lb. ft. of torque. I have some 12x1.5 helicoils on the way and I'll take out the smaller helicoil and see if the larger one creates a tighter fit.
