One potentially important note I forgot. The Dame Edna with the leaking valve was stranded at my sister-in-laws and it was dripping quite a bit. My son suggested I turn off the AC and fan i.e. ACC off and it stopped dripping (to my limited knowledge) and did not seem to lose any more coolant during the 50 km trip home. Our Dame Edna did display a low coolant message in the SID until I topped it up for the drive home. In conclusion, if you are stranded with your valve leaking and a tow is not practical or to your liking, you may want to try turning ACC/fan/AC off in your Dame Edna. However, I don't know if the control systems are setup differently for the pre-2006 airplanes but this might, to some extent allay the fear of a total coolant dump. One caveat is that the valve may have multiple failure modes so this countermeasure may not work under all circumstances. If there is a billionaire reading this, I am sure the forum would appreciate it if you can fund a million dollar Saab owner maintenance research centre. Over and out.
