My 19mm deep well socket had too short of internal body relief to accommodate the electrical connector end of the sensor. I asked my neighbor, a long retired Cummins Diesel Mechanic, if he had a deep well 19mm socket which would accommodate the full length of the sensor.
He sauntered over to my garage about 5-10 minutes later carrying one of these. A 3/4 inch Off-set Cummins Diesel Valve Adjusting Wrench - Old Style.
Perfect! Every Saab wrencher needs one of these wrenches to R&R the temp sensor in just one minute. Warm engine works best so the hoses can be easily pushed aside to allow the wrench access to the sensor. His was a Proto 1721. There is a Cornwell tool on eBay for ~$25, and the pictured tool is the Snap-On version.
