You likely have 2-3 qts is all or a plugged pickup, but first -
CHECK the actual level with the dipstick -
if it doesn't show up after adding 2 qts, I wouldn't be surprised -(if it does, have the engine checked for sludge!!!)
if by the time you get close to adding the last few half qts and then rechecking level each time and it shows up on the dipstick, start looking for leaks, and check the PCV system for missing hoses etc...
