I redid the cooling system not because of an overheating condition - we were leaking some coolant and when I did a pressure test, I got some leakage from the rad, and I could see some evidence of leakage at the top of the Coolant Bypass Valve... this is a car I had purchased cheap last fall, with some records, but lapses or incomplete service history. I had accumulated cooling system parts and felt it was a good time to do the overhaul - replaced bypass valve with DO88 hose kit (Mackay style), new tstat, new rad hoses, new rad, etc. Waterpump was done not too long ago (have service record for PO for that so I left it in).
Oil was present through the turbo bypass line, through the intake to the throttle body, and accumulation in the TB itself (I cleaned that out as part of the maintenance also). I had just replaced the leaking rad on my other 9-5 (when it rains it pours - 2 9-5's and a c900 down in 2 weeks!!!), and all of the intake and turbo bypass was bone dry in that car with no evidence of oil around the turbo or intercooler hose...
No smoke, but maybe boost is not what it could be. Hard to know. Car is back on the road now so I can monitor the situation. I did not realize that the normal oil leak lead to accumulation on the intercooler hose. I've cleaned it off and will look to see what happens going forward.
