Diagnosis progresses slowly, the car is out of town for the near future"
symptom: '01 Aero, "C1387 - Wheel sensor rear right. No signal"
Original thread here: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=277523 but in summary, prior to getting the code I've: had the ABS module rebuilt, replaced the brake light switch, rebuilt the junctions (j108-j111), inspected the tone rings.
With the code in hand I decided to check the signal from the abs sensor:
- I have an abs car-side pigtail from the junkyard .. I plugged it into each wheel and read the resistance. Both sides read the same ~1045ohm.
this seems to suggest that the sensor is good ... is that right?
The fact that the ABS light comes on before the car is moving, and immediately after clearing the code, suggest that a static test is failing ... correct me if I am wrong!
- I double checked the junctions ... they looked good. did a jiggle test, a pull test, even a yank test. The junctions seem fine. but the code persists.
- So decided to re-do the junctions. I cut out my splices. And for sanity I decided to check the codes with all 4 junctions cut open. I expected to get a "no signal" code for *both rear wheels*
But the single code persists, right rear only. How is this possible? all 4 junctions, for both rear wheels, are severed and providing no signal, yet the code is right rear only.
Before cutting the junctions I used the data graphing capability of the Tech2 and saw that the left sensor was reporting speed, but the right sensor was not.
After cutting out the splices neither sensor is reporting speed. but still the code remains, "right rear sensor, no signal". there is no "rear left sensor" code whatsoever.
Can I check the signal at the ABS module? Which pins at the ABS module connect to the rear wheel sensor? I'd like to check the reading from each wheel at the module itself.
any other thoughts on next diagnostic steps?
