is a terrible design. The Torx head bolt that holds it in place is a huge long bolt with too small of head for a socket that can handle the torque needed for removal. The last one I removed broke 2 sockets in the process.
Once you get the sprocket off you will realize that the key to hold it from rotating is a cast in part of the sprocket -- and the one I did was sheared of in the removal process.
It would seem better to lock the engine from turning by holding the flywheel, that way there is no load going thru that key. Not my favorite engine to repair, but if you need parts I have a complete one with a bad turbo. It's a 2003 with about 180k.
