The front caliper dispenses with the sliding caliper having a sliding machined contact surface with the fixed portion of the caliper. This seems to be a mature design that dispenses with usless details. The design now rightly assumes that the brake pad backing plates will direct all of the braking forces to the fixed caliper via the pad backing plates. So one does not have to worry about the two caliper portions having a machined sliding interface to be lubricated. The whole caliper to caliper is a a bit floppy, but the outer wire spring keeps things relatively stable. I suspect that the spring keeps the sliding caliper in contact with the ears of the backing plate, so the backing plate ears are a contact point to both the fixed and sliding bits. This design approach may have been around for while, but I saw this detail for the first time. With the 95SET I never had the slider bolts out, I changed the pads with the caliper completely removed as the rotors were being replaced. I have seen floating caliper designs with the sliding machined interfaces over the years.
