Thursday night we had the storm of the year here in the Phoenix area. While I was driving to rescue my wife who had driven through some deep water in her VW New Beetle (wet wires, I fixed it right up), I drove though some other, "invisible" deep water in a parking lot. After spending the following morning doing the OnStar -> Saab Roadside Assistance -> Tow Truck thing, the service advisor at the dealership told me there was water in the cylinders and that it could have bent a rod. They won't know anything substantive until the insurance adjuster comes out on Monday or Tuesday to check it out.
When I drove my rental to the dealership to get my sunglasses and garage door opener out of my car (my brain wasn't working too well), they told me that they had FIVE other Saabs with the exact same problem come in that day. At that is at one of three Saab dealerships in town.
From reading other posts, it sounds like the air intake is really close to the ground. Besides not driving in the rain, is there anything that can be done to move the intake higher? Humvee-style snorkel attached to the A-pillar?
I am curious as to how many people have had this happen, and what it has ended up costing them or their insurance companies.
Thanks for letting me vent. I love the car and am suffering driving a rental pickup truck right now.
