Thanks for the sympathy. I bought this car at Kachina Saab, since I live in Tempe. The service department has been great. Their former service guy, Ted Vaughn, was awesome and helped me a lot with my '99 9-5 which was having some woes. I ultimately upgraded to the 2002 Aero and went though them. The sales guys were morons when it came to Saabs.
I am now going to give a commentary:
It was a good thing that I knew exactly what I wanted. I went in and said to the sales guy, "I am looking for a new Saab 9-5 Aero with a five speed and ventilated seats in Cosmic Blue." He said, "Hey mijo, how 'bout this Cadillac Escalade over here?" I wanted to say, "Gee, it's a good thing I talked to you, because I didn't seem to know EXACTLY what I wanted before I came in here." It went downhill from there, with their sales manager, Dominic The Liar promising me one thing, then raising the price ten grand the next day.
General Motors seems at a loss why Saab's sales aren't going so well. I'll tell you. Domestic car dealers and European car dealers treat their customers differently. Saab buyers are used to being treated like BMW buyers are treated. Low key, treat you with respect. When GM consolidated their "premier" lines into the Cadillac dealerships, they lost that. I wanted to take a shower after I left the sales department of that dealership. It doesn't help matters that the sales guys don't know anything about Saabs, so they try to talk everybody into Cadillacs, where they (the salesmen) are more comfortable. I'd be willing to bet that Cadillac sales increase once dealerships start selling Saabs.
It drives me crazy, but I'm sure you have figured that out by now.
Anyway, back to my car woes. I'll keep you guys posted on how my car is doing. Right now, I'm off to Home Depot in my pick-em-up truck for some overdue home improvement stuff (hey, I can't fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in a 9-5).
