On my 1998 900SET I had the temperature indicator reset. I had the tech. set Item 2 equal to the thermostat opening temperature (in my car 89C) and set Item 3 equal to the fast speed on the 2-speed electric radiator fan (something like 110C for my car).
This way the 'dead' zone in normal operating temperature (thermostat fully open, radiator cooling fan on 'low' speed). Anything above that causes the needle to rise. Your tech. should be able to find the thermostat and fan operating temps. in his 93SS workshop manual.
