If it were my car, and they were offering to repair the damage that was caused by the turn signal asembly falling out and scratching the finish,I would want it painted the correct way. YOur assertion that it would not match, or would fade, or any of that other stuff is just that before you have it done,an assertion. Painting has come a long way in the last few years. Color matching is done by computer right on your actual paint sample, so it will match. Due to environmental regulations, body shops now "bag" the areas of the car that are not getting the paint, so that old bugaboo, overspray, is pretty much eliminated. There are lots of good shops out there, and ultimately, if they hand it back to you and you think it is not done right, hand it back to them and tell them to re-do it! It's not a show car either, it's your every day ride. Take a look at the front end of any one year or older car, and it looks like it's been to Iraq and back. Touching up, on the other hand, unless you have a solid paint color, is nearly impossible to do and not look like a repair. With solids, you can wet sand and blend the repairs in to be unnoticable.
