After trying many different solutions, Jim Uhl, and an EE frind of mine fixed the Triad whine problem. Although not eliminated the whine is now at abarely audible level. In fact at highway speeds it is not audible over the road noise.
This was done by putting a special capacitor accross the posative lug of the alternater terminal and grounding it directly to the alternater casing. This filters out the AC component of the alternater output and attenuates the noise right at the source.
The job is easy and I think I will e-mail Jim Uhl a pic or two of it for his website. If you can handle the Traid install you can handle this.
The EE friend of mine has a bunch of these caps already wired up (With fusable link on positive side, and crimp terminals on either side. All in a neat package.) He made them up for a boat busness he used to run to help combat Alternater noise. He said they cost him about ten bucks each to build and I paid him ten bucks for mine. I think he is willing to let the rest go for thatif anyone else is interested. I didn't see him today but next time I do I will find out if he will let me post an e-mail address or some form of contact on the BB. I am sure he will but would like to get his permission first.
Note to Scott:
If the EE friend of mine agrees to post contact info are you OK with that or is that seen as a "forsale" post. I saw a post of yours a few days ago stating that this was not permitted.
I don't think that would be one, as I am not selling anything just letting fellow Saabers know where they can purchase a product that will solve their alternater whine problems and how much it costs. I do not profit in any way. Jim Uhl and I spent a LOT of time working this problem out. (I even wipped out my osciliscope) The engineer that sells the noise filter is a third party that actually works with Onstar development. He too is not profiting, just trying to get back what he payed for the remaining stock of filters that he did not sell in his boat buisness. (He says he used to sell them for between 40-50 dollars each in the day...)
If you do not agree and feel this is a "Forsale" post, reply. Personally I think it would be a great disservice for the Triad users. (As well as anyone trying to solve an alternater whine problem ie amplifiers etc)
