Well that explains a lot... I've driven both all seasons and real winter tires on ice, and the difference is dramatic. I had an experience last year with extreme ice conditions around Christmas. Our parking area was completely iced over. We almost cancelled our trip to the cinema to see the 2 Towers, but I was insistant that it was possible to get the car out (carefully) even though you could barely stand up in the parking area.
The hardest part was actually walking to the car without falling over. Once we were inside, everything went smoothly, except a moment when the whole car was slowly inching sideways, but that would have happened in an AWD vehicle too.
Without siped winter tires it would have been impossible to even move the car.....
What I worry about most during winter driving, is being hit by other drivers who don't use winter tires, and that is where the benefit of a safe 9-5 comes in. It is the safest car money can buy. Both proved by EURONCAP testing, and insurance statistics (Voted safest car of the year, over Volvos et al, several times by FOLKSAM).
