1999 9-5 V6 71k
I purchased the above car from the original owner in December 2002 when the car had 55k miles. The owner had all service records and I noticed the SID was replaced under warranty at 45k miles in 2/02. I was glad to see the SID was relatively new since it was a known issue on this board that the pixels fade.
Over the past month or so I've noticed some of the pixels are fading/missing. I thought it was strange that the car would need a second SID only 25k miles after the original SID was replaced, so I called Saab USA. I talked to the rep who first told me that I would need to take the car to the dealer to be diagnosed before they could tell me if they would help with the repair. It's pretty easy to diagnose so I thought I'd play along and do that. Then the rep then started asking me questions like, "When did you buy the car?" "Are you the original owner?" "Is this the first Saab you've owned?" "How many miles were on the car when you purchased it." After going through those questions she suddenly changed tones and said that Saab would not be able to help me since I was not the original owner. In my mind, the part is bad and that should not have anything to do with me being the first, second, or tenth owner. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she said "Sally" would call me back in 24 hours. I did not hear from "Sally" so 72 hours later I called back and this time I received a return call from "Betty." Betty basically said Saab would not cover the part since the car is not in warranty. She was not impressed with the fact that it was replaced once and that one only lasted 25k miles. She said Saab replaced the first one under warranty and that is all they can do. I told her I would share this experience with Saabnet.com.
I'm a reasonable person and would not request this if this was a random issue. It seems like Saab should do something about this expensive and defective part. Others might agree with Saab USA so I thought I'd share my experience with you. I'd like to hear from others if there is anything else I should do. Thanks.
