Our cars sound very similar in terms of mileage etc. (except mine's a year younger - :-) too many miles). As I posted earlier, I haven't seen the smoke for awhile now...except the other morning (very humid) when I started the car, I didn't engage the starter long enough. The car didn't start, so when I reset and started it, a puff of white smoke......which leads me to believe, finally, that (in my instance at least) two people are right: one who said that the synth oil will clean out impurities and therefore you see smoke for a bit, and another person (actually several) who mentioned rich fuel mixtures (as evidenced by my miss-start the other morning--fuel was introduced into the system by the miss-start, then more fuel when I finally started). *sigh* Who really knows though? When I first got my Saab and drove it to work, a (rude) co-worker said, "well, you know what Click and Clack say, 'where there's smoke there's a Saab'". Whatever. Good luck with your problem. Like I said earlier, I am very relieved that my problem has gone away.
