Pay is about the same for those types of jobs as in the US. Living costs depend on where you live. In London you would be lucky to get a one bedroom flat for less than £300 a week. On the other hand, in other areas you might be able to get a flat for £70 a week (£1=$1.40). Petrol is £4 a gallon ($6!!!!), cars cost about 60% more new but food and drink are about the same as in the US. Overall, it is more expensive than the US.
Of course, the benefits are that he would be coming to the oldest democracy in the world; the country that stood alone for half the second world-war as the only opposition to Hitler and the country from where industrialisation sprung. Some things are more important than the cost of living...
