Chris,
Based on what you describe you are probably looking at $2500+ to have someone deal with the car's problems. Even then it probably won't be complete. I can empathize with your desire for the spg. I had the same yearning and acted on it. $4200 and alot of aggravation later I have a car that looks good, performs fair, and has been a pain in the ass to own. As a wise mechanic once said "the spg is a good car on a great day." My experience is that the spg is a gimmick. Read the posts on this board and you get the distinct impression that the spg is a cleverly disguised formula one racer. The turbo and spg are the same for the most part. The only advantage to the spg is that you will no longer need to see the dentist for a tooth extraction. Simply drive over a pothole or railroad crossing and the spg's suspension will do the rest. In fact, it may loosen every tooth in your head. The noise resembles a 12ga shotgun going off in the passenger's seat. It really brings all those annoying rattles, creaks, and groans to a full crescendo. My advice is to buy a new style 900 or 93. The ride is much improved, the parts are less expensive, and you will spend probably 40% less in maintenance costs over the life of the car. You don't need to break the bank either. I have seen a number of 1995s in 7-9K with well under 100k miles. I own the new style and wouldn't go back.
