Hello all-
This board has been an excellent find for me and my 87 900T. I think I was pretty lucky getting it for the price I paid, though I have since seen better deals. On to the heart of the matter. . .
My girlfriend currently drives an early 90's honda civic. (I know, honda is ther enemy, but it is acually a pretty good little car ;-) She drives my car from time to time, and always wears a smile when she does. In other words, she wants a 900 too!
I'm looking locally and online for a car for her. I don't mind doing work on something myself, and I'm pretty aware of the problems that can occur with 900's like mine. But, I have absolutely zero experience with 8 valve 900's. Never driven one, never looked at one. And, with our budget constraints, it is looking like most of the 900's in our price range are 8v's.
So, here is where you guys all in. . . Tell me about 8 valve 900's! Are they really a noticable amount less powerful? Is the power distributed differently? (ie more off-the-line but less passing power than a 16v, for example) How about maintenence of an 8v? Simpler because of the fewer moving parts?
Also, are there any other important differences between my 87 and the earlier cars? I've heard that 85's can have poor wiring. That is about all I know about 900's older than mine.
TIA for any advice!
-Nate
