Alain,
Firstly, I would try to get everything as close to OE spec as possible to make sure everything is operating correctly. Keep the timing at 16 deg for now. We can do something about timing later after the car is working correctly. The TTE forum gave some good advice about timing and boost issues.
If the air passage tube blows off, there is not a sufficient clamp on it. It would be good to check all of the clamps and rubber bellows to ensure that they are all in good shape. You could remove them and clean them in the sink to have good light and be able to see all of them clearly. That it was spitting from the tailpipe in black sooty water tells me that it is running rich. This conflicts with the reading from the O2 sensor. I cannot speak for the Lucas system and its operating characteristic, but only from the LH. It is able to control the lambda quite closely and it oscillates between 0.3 and 0.7. it is a slow fluctuation and has about 8 zero crossings a minute, I have read. My previous problem with FI, I had a good signal at start, but it would deteriorate over time and eventually show very rich. Why don't you connect a wire from the O2 and run it through the passenger door jamb and into the interior. Connect the DVM and ride around with a friend to monitor the signal. If it is always oscillating as exopected, everything is OK and I see no symptom. I doubt that this will be the case as there is a definite drivability problem which should show up in the tailpipe. Once it is present, then, you need to inspect other signals to see why. You have a properly operating car with the same FI system, so we can do a comparison. Find which pins on the lucas AMM is ground and which is the output signal to the FI ECU from a manual or other source. My problem exhibited itself from about 5 minutes or running until the AMM would 'burn off' after it was turned off and let sit for a couple of minutes. It would then, at burn off, make a good ground again. On the LH system, the FI system had grounds on the head near cylinder 4. I cleaned these. Also it is advisable to clean the battery negative terminal, the connection to the front cross member, and the connection to the front of the gearbox. I unbolted, wire brushed, and put little smear of synth grease on them upon reassembly. When I did this, my problems vanished.
Let us know how it goes.
