it is just as likely the heater switch leaking or maybe just the o-rings. that is kind of a b***** to do. the switch is not too bad if you don't mind being contortionistic. the core requires that you remove the air distribution duct and lower dash i think. not impossible...just hard to get so small. be careful of errant disconnections while in there. i.e. vacuum lines, cruise control, brake switch, heater controls. you probably have to let the instrument panel loose as well to remove the linkage.
