Most likely you've got a leaky heater valve. Heater cores fail infrequently whereas the valves commonly fail. Removal can be done through the left speaker hole if your hands are small and you've got a supply of bandaids. I'm partial to removing the knee bolster and some of the heater ducting to remove both the heater valve and heater core together. It probably takes about the same amount of time (or less) and you don't have to be a contortionist.
