because I believe that someone will sue them if they do not do something. I simply wanted to alert my favorite car company's lawyers (who are risk averse) to a potential liability.
I do not think that this is a safety issue, from what I know thus far. This does not mean that Saab is not open to a potentially huge liability for the cost of replacement and repair of all servicable c900 cars on the road. I represented a waterheater manufacturer that settled a huge class action law suit brought on the basis of pure property damage claims and costs of repair to collateral systems. The dip tube was defective in that it corroded in hot water over the years, The remnants of the dip tube caused about 200 - 500 dollars in damage to the plumbing systems attached to the water heater. The tube was a 35 cent part. Multiply the 300 dollar average claim by a a million or so, and there is a substantial liability. Saab could be in a similar situation.
Hope it does not happen.
