I'll bet you will enjoy the car and it sounds like you found a real deal. I just did the same procedure on my '83 this weekend. I wouldn't try it without a good manual and the Bentley is what I used. Advice I can give in retrospect is to label all of the wires in the wiring harness which you remove, and there will be lots. Many wires have the same connectors. It may look like they can only reach one sensor or switch when the harness is hooked up to the engine, but that won't be the case when the harness is pulled free of the engine. I'd also suggest you follow the posting I just made under "Bentley wrong or did I goof?". I suspect, but am not sure, that the Bentley manual (as good as it is) is misleading (or incomplete) for the procedure you want to do.
Specifically, it gives detailed instructions on removing the engine and transmission. These steps are fine if you just want to remove the engine and transmission and put them back. I believe now, however, that if you want to separate the engine and transmission once the units are out of the car, you need to install a spacer ring in the clutch pressure plate before you disconnect the hydraulic line from the clutch slave cylinder. Otherwise, the clutch springs jam the slave cylinder between transmission case parts and the engine will not separate from the transmission. On the other hand if, as someone suggests, your slave cylinder has gone bad from age just pull the engine and transmission. What you need to do then to separate the engine from the transmission once it is out is to cut the slave cylinder in half with a reciprocating saw and several metal cutting blades. Remember to pull the shaft that transmits power from the clutch disk to the primary chain sprocket before cutting the slave cylinder if you need to cut the slave cylinder. Otherwise you ruin this shaft.
