Vince's suggestions, you might want go to a fabric store and buy a yard of 1/2" cotton batting. Once you wash the original fabric and brush the masonite clean, that lightly padded feeling will be gone. The batting makes a nice substitute and can be glued to masonite with same spray adhesive. Once batting is glued to masonite, spray glue over it and then apply original fabric.
