I'd go ahead and remove it. Make yourself comfortable. The amount of time spent is a fraction of the amount of time spent trying to work around it. Not to mention the frustration.

Wait til the car is dead cold. Otherwise the mounting flange may warp. Undo the bolts in increments. Use a torque wrench to reattach in three stages to the specified torque.

While the manifold is out, make sure both mating surfaces are clean. Replace the injector seals, clean the throttle body with some carb cleaner, and use a SAAB or Elring intake manifold gasket (they are the same) to insure a good seal.

The car should idle beautifully after restoring perfect seal to the intake tract.
