i carry my tool kit (socket set, screw drivers, torx set, etc.) next to the spare tire. in fact, any time i do work on the car, i work with the kit in the trunk. i also have a small bin that i have strapped down in the trunk. the bin contains: bently manual, few rags, extra oil, power steering fluid, bottle of water, brake fluid, voltmeter, flashlight, jumper cables, and a few other things i may have forgotten. it sounds a little over cautious, but in my experience, it has been down right prudent. my thought is not that the car is going to break on me, more that if something happens, i want to do everything i can to prevent towing and paying someone else. i do all my own maintenance, so why would i want to give someone else 1st dibs in an emergency..?
