Your mechanic will change the entire axle. He can buy them for $49.99, and it will cost less than buying the CV joints & boots, also a lot less labor.
I worked for an auto parts distributor for 1 year. During that time we sold thousands of rebuilt axles, and not even 1 CV joint. The rebuilders of shafts buy CV joints in massive quantities, and they must compete with other rebuilders, bringing price down on axles & up on CV joints.
Look at it this way, if the bearing in your alternator went bad, your mechanic would put in a rebuilt alternator. It is cheaper & more efficient than changing the bearing.
