Hard to say.
Since he uses those rebuilt axle assemblies I guess he is not a Saab specialist and if so, it is no telling what he have done.
Wonder if it is the same guy that just yesterday posted a plea on the other board I frequent (IATN).
That mechanic (Dennis in NY) had just replaced a right side drive shaft on an 88 conv with a rebuilt unit and it popped out when he test drove the car.
Drive shafts comes in different length depending on year and model and left and right side, so it is important that the mechanic knows the difference.
Using cheap, rebuilt axles also puts him in the mercy of the rebuilder and what the rebuilder have concocted when grabbing parts from the bin and slapping things together and put a part number on it.
It might be that the part number is correct on the axle he got, but the axle inside is the wrong one.
Maybe even the mechanic has used a prybar trying to get the inner driver out of the transmission (which is a common way on other car brands, but not the Saab C900) and by that, broken the transmission housing.
The damage possibilities are endless if the mechanic is not familiar with those Saabs.
Yes, it might be a good idea to have another Saab shop look at it.
