Jerry, As Swedecar said, the most likely thing given the statement "the axle fell out" is that the mechanic used a rebuilt unit which was too short. Left and right axles on C900s are slightly different lengths, just enough to make the shorter axle fall out of the inner driver while turning a sharp corner if it is placed on the wrong side of the car. And I agree, If the mechanic was using rebuilt axles then he probably isn't a real Saab tech. anyway and should stick to what(ever) he knows. The damage could be almost nil or quite extensive depending upon many variables, such as, how fast was he going when the axle fell out? It is also possible that he forgot to put the ball joint(s) back properly, leading to the problem. What does that suggest? Saab C900 ball joints are some of the easiest to properly secure in the whole automotive kingdom. Good luck.
