The knuckle assembly is the same between vented and non-vented cars, but the hub assembly is different. Since the hub is part of the knuckle assembly for all practical purposes, they do not swap.
P/N for hubs with vented rotors is 91 03 623
P/N for hubs with non-vented rotor is 91 03 607
I believe the difference is the thickness of the hub.
If he wants to swap the knuckle/hub from the '84 onto the '87 it will not work, unless he also swaps over the entire brake system and goes to non-vented rotors. If he attempts to swap just the knuckle/hub and keep the vented brake system, that wheel will not rotate. He will lose clearance and that side will be locked up tight.
