if I understand this correctly...
the only difference in the knuckle would be the ABS variant. I don't believe the US version had ABS in 1987. none of my 1987's have ABS, not my turbo 5sp convertible, not my 900S 5sp 4door. but both have ventilated disks. my 1987 900 8V auto has solid rotors. it uses the same knuckle AND the same bearing. But a different hub.
The bearing gets pressed into the knuckle, and the hub into the bearing. There are different hubs for the solid and ventilated rotors.
In 1985 the 900T came with ventilated rotors, the S and plain jane came with solid rotors. same in 1986. I took the rotors and calipers from a 1986 900S and put on the 1987 900 8V auto because the 8V was a chicago car and full of rust... the 1986 solid rotor stuff bolted up just fine, just like the EPC software said.
I'd suggest he finds a good machine shop and see if they have the appropriate tools to press the old bearings out and the new ones in. Cost should be about $20-50 total.
or ship them to someone that can do them. I purchsed a knuckle with hub with a good bearing to replace a bent one in a used 1990 from East of Sweden (used) so it is possible.
