i worked out it was definately the trans that was shot, not my shiny sd clutch with less than 500 miles on it (it had started to judder on take-off). the trans was whining when i got it, so i babied it but i knew the writing was on the wall. i installed a sliding over-head hoist last year, with space in front of the car to lay out new trans, etc and not have to move the car after pulling the old one-havn't had a chance to use it yet, so i'm stoked! the car has 125,000 on it, so i'm keeping original engine/turbo set-up, just swapping trans for a 10,000 mile since rebuilt unit ($400), have the gasket sitting around somewhere. replaced the 4 balljoints a couple of weeks before, so they are good, have my cross-drilled in there, so she stops-as you know, but i will be putting new mounts, probably new inner bushings as one was shot before, front and rear seals, new belts, probably a couple of hoses, good clean up (front seal has been weeping for a while) and she will be good to go! then, next in will be the SIS for a 5 speed conversion, lot's o' fun there, because i have a complete engine/trans set-up from my 92 ready to go straight in, should be all done in just a couple of coffee fueled days... then the drive shafts and ball joints on the other cvt and i'll be set for the next round...
1/2 the fun is driving, 1/2 is fixin'...
