Here's a tip based on my experience. When I did my first clutch replacement, I read the cautions about overextending the slave and damaging the seals. I was very nervous about this as I didn't want to have to pull the new clutch to fix an unnecessary error. After all was installed and looked good, I used some hefty linemans pliers to grab the protruding end of the spacer tool and tugged it out without the assist of depressing the clutch pedal. I was surprised how easily it came out - I credit the spacer tool - a piece of copper ground wire which is smooth and pliable. Used the same trick on my second clutch (different car) and again worked fine.
