A C900, properly cared for, free of rust, substandard body repairs, preexisting dents, etc, will perform as well as when it was new in a crash.
However, considering the last structural changes to the C900 happened almost 20 years ago, a modern car would perform much better in a similar crash, and would likely result in fewer or lesser injuries.
That's not to say a C900 is a deathtrap, far, far from it. But if your primary criteria is crashworthiness, I have to give the nod to much newer cars.
If you want to stay in the Saab family, the 9-5 would be a good bet. they're very crash-worthy, and sell inexpensively used.
But I have no problems driving C900s around. They're lots more fun than my Volvo 740T!
