The amplifier gets hot and can start to act up like that. A friend has also used a can of compressed air or an ice pack to cool it off and tested it that way. The only thing I can think of that could possibly cause that would be the crank sensor. I just went through a whole lot of self inflicted frustration checking and replacing everything but the crank sensor. I had replaced it a month prior to having the same problem and assumed it was good. You need to get a analog volt meter, set to a low AC scale and check the pulse coming from the crank sensor as you turn the engine by hand. Remove the spark plugs, jack up one wheel, chock the other, put it in gear and turn the wheel by hand to turn the engine over and see if you get a pulse from the center wire of the crank sensor with the ignition on.
