DItto on checking the wires and ignition amp. Get a can of electric contact cleaner at the auto parts store. Next time it dies, spray the ignition amplifier and it will cool right down. You can also clean the electric connectors.
My vote is on the crank sensor, I think it has thin wires in there and it is in a hot spot.
You can do the distributor hall sensor fix to check. If you can find a pre 89 or turbo distributor the hall sensor can be wired up to the crank sensor wires. I did that when my 94 vert non turbo had the same issue, it was the crank sensor.
