I currently own a 2002 V70XC, a 1992 Saab 900 base (which I regrettably must sell) and a 1988 900TC (I do 90% of the repairs or I couldn't afford them) and I love them all, but I don't see the Volvo as a substitute for the Saab(s). The XC is my seventh Volvo (including two 850's and two V70's) and the 900TC is my 5th Saab. For pure driving pleasure I'd choose the Saab over the Volvo any day. As (until recently) a family man and contractor, the V70XC is the best small transporter on four wheels. It's a brilliant design and its only weakness is the Ford transmission which unfortunately replaced the Toyota unit in the transition from 850 to V70.
I sold my first 850 at 438,000 km. If you are mechanically inclined and know where to find affordable parts, the Volvo like the Saab (in its time)is one of the best used car buys out there. Why not buy an older relatively low mileage V70 for less and keep the Saab (if you have room to park)?
