I think your text said 1996, but let's assume 1986.
MMO ... Marvel Mystery Oil. Run that stuff in the crankcase, follow directions, and don't put it under load. It should help the tick in the lifter.....Sea Foam is a good product too.
All the engines I have ever had, produced some oil in the IC inlet tube. Test the check valve between the intake manifold and the top valve cover. It checks pressure between the two, but I only have LH2.4 cars, and that valve may not be on the 1986. Others will chime in on that I hope.
Slave cylinder replacement requires a few special tools. They can be made as well. Bentley will help, but it can be a PITA the first time around.
With the oil leaks you are mentioning, it could be as simple as a venting problem with the PCV. Hopefully, not a blowby problem.....maybe a stuck ring that the MMO will help free up? You could also try pouring MMO in each cylinder while they are all in the midway position and leave the MMO in for a few days. Then, before you put the plugs in, run it over a few times, and when you start it, warn the neighbors not to call the fire department. Gets kinda smokey when the MMO starts to burn off.
Good luck, and hope the beast wakes up gently.
