thanks... maybe I will try this approach... in principle, I can drop the exhaust, but it's all 1 piece (welded end to end, some sort of stainless)... I'd thought about attacking this with a dremel but I don't want to frig up the threads...
I've got the outer can + wiring gone, could easily shorten the remaining innards to get a socket over it, but no room to use a socket without dropping... the remaining o2 sensor won't budge no matter how much hammering, etc even with 5' of pipe extension... otherwise it would be out already ;-)...
this may even be the original sensor - it's a 1989 with only 100k on it, but has lived in salty crud all it's life... the sensor in there is bosch, but the hex seems to be 20-21mm vs 22mm for the new one I have (also bosch from eeuro, looks to have the right saab connectors, a touch of antisieze even, and cost only $60)... I sure hope the new one fits the hole! this exhaust is kind of customized as the car lived in the boonies + that was cheaper + longer lasting than saab exhausts...
