I found an 85 900 for sale in the area. This would potentially be my first Saab. Ill post up the ad, im interested to hear what everyone thinks about the issues/asking price. :
This is a solid, reliable and roomy engineering masterpiece that starts every time and averages around 22-25 mpg. it's never let me down. I'm the fourth owner, I bought it from a friend whose family owned it for 17 years and kept it garaged and well maintained. it's been treated very will its whole life and is still running strong. asking 1500, don't want to go much lower but cash talks. also willing to trade, no automatics, gas guzzlers, or pos cars... I will put cash on top for the right car! must be in as good or better shape than mine. 503-446-0780, call or text anytime past 10am.
Here are the good points...
NEW--
(last 1000 miles or less):
-all belts
-all filters
-transmission oil change
-pcv valve
-platinum plugs
(last 5000 miles or less):
-exhaust, catylitic converter, and muffler
-full front brakes
-valve cover gasket
-tires
-cap, rotor, wires
-passed DEQ with flying colors a couple months ago, I have the test report and it's tagged till 9/13
-disc brakes all around
-been running synthetic 5w-30 for the past 4 oil changes or 10k
-non-turbo (infinitely more reliable than turbo models, I haven't had to fix a single thing that hasn't worn out naturally)
-great paint, looks like new after a wash/wax except drivers door where you can see some peeled clear coat up close
-nice JVC cd player w/ front aux in and focal speakers.
-no interior leaks at all
-doesn't burn or leak any fluids besides a little coolant (see below)
-sunroof
-great interior (minus rear carpet), headliner is perfect which is uncommon for saabs of this age.
-extra rims (better looking than current ones in my opinion), dash, grill, locks, lights, sunroof bubble, misc. other parts including haynes manual (which, unlike most of the ones you'll find, does cover 8 valve models!)
-extremely reliable, I've never had trouble starting it and it's never died.
and the bad points:
-odometer stopped at 180k, car has around 210k on it now.
-no rear carpet, but the rubber mats are there.
-cracked dash
-you have to hold the turn signal for right turns
-very slow radiator leak (check/top off radiator once a week). I'll throw in the radiator flush, sealent and 2gals coolant I have, I've been meaning to do it myself but haven't had the time.
-power mirrors don't work, need to be adjusted by hand.
-takes about one minute to warm up in the morning, you can start it and go but it's jerky for about a block if it hasn't run a little. could be as simple as cleaning the injectors, I haven't gotten around to it cause it doesn't bother me.
