ok, if you looking for a SAAB...
no automatics! Just don't do it. problematic..
The 8v are awesome engines (offered up to 88). More trouble free, but less powerful then the 16v, esp. in the lower RPM range, but 8v is more fun to rev up IMO. They just scream in the upper RPM range.
If it's your 1st SAAB, consider buying a non turbo car. Turbos are amazingly awesome technology, but there's significantly more parts to the engine, and they are gonna require more maintainance.
Personally i love the non turbo cars, they run forever w/ some tlc.
..and if you get a 91-93 2.1L, the HP is about the same as an 8v turbo, not so much the torque though...
