"Regasket the replacement transmission"... thus speaketh CMyles, and don't be in violation of his guidance. I recently did the swap, and 28k mi later it's running great (an '88 5 spd from a 900s mated to a motor from a '93 900s) except for one thing: it leaks tranny fluid. Worse still, it leaks in a way(s?) that I can't identify. That is, there is a constant drip, drip, drip, but no clear fluid trail down the drivetrain to suggest the source. I'm exceedingly proud of the fact that I managed the transplant and restoration, save the fact that I feel the need to park in areas of the street or friend's properties where an incontinent Saab's emissions might leave a mark.

I found myself without the proper tranny-motor gasket and substituted Loctite 5415 (or thereabouts), a red anaerobic gasket maker. I suspect that I didn't use enough of it and that makes me sad. Also be sure to heed the Bentley warnings of which bolts need thread sealant; I think I handled that OK, I just want to make sure you know to do so.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
