Need help with valuation of a '89 Turbo Convertible Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 2 Oct 2012 13:56:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A follow-up to my earlier posting below. I did some on-line research regarding appropriate market pricing for this car. KBB only goes back to 1992 and their price for a Dealer sale is based on the car being renovated to Excellent condition.
The value of C900 Convertibles being advertised on this board is significantly higher than KBB, and Wikipedia (went there by accident) says to be cautious when buying one of these from a die-hard Saab fan because the aficionados will include a non-market supported premium in the asking price.
OK, now for the details:
1989 Turbo Convertible with automatic transmission and only 75K miles.
Convertible top looks brand new.
Interior is in rough shape. Driver's seat left bolster is chewed up almost to the foam. Cushion of front passenger seat and rear passenger side seat have splits in the stitching/leather. Leading edge of front seat frames have visible rust.
Carpet on driver's side floor has a hole worn thru, but not in the driver's heel area, and the jute backing appears dry rotted.
The coarse fabric inserts on the front door panels (my mother would have called the fabric hop sacking) have pulled loose from the cardboard backing all around.
Many/most of the dashboard control buttons have had their functional printed identifiers worn away from use/cleaning.
Car still has original Clarion radio and equalizer(?)
There are 2 or 3 blisters beneath the paint on the left rear fender flare above the wheel opening. No other visible rust on exterior.
The body paint is crackled in spots and somewhat dull, but I realize this is a 24 year old car. The bumpers need to be repainted.
There is delamination of the paint parallel to the pin striping in spots making me believe the car had an over-spray once upon a time that is now loosening at the edges.
The engine started easily and idled great. The battery is new or almost new. Almost no rust in the engine compartment. The engine has the appropriate amount of dirt for a 24 year old car with 75K miles - dusty but no oily grime.
I didn't take it for a test drive because evening rush hour had already started and finding enough clear street length to accelerate to posted speed limits would have been impossible.
So what are your opinions of an appropriate value?
Thanks
