Out of 14 c900s, this is only the second with working AC, and the other I had to shell out $1000 to get it to work! It took about 15 minutes. Here's the details:
1994 Commemorative Edition convertible. AC was not working when I bought it years ago. Last year, I was doing some work on it and had to move an AC line. I figured it was dead anyway, so I disconnected it. And to my surprise found the system still fully charged! All the refrigerant leaked out, but it led me to believe that if there was no leak, then maybe there was a simple fix. I looked over the system and found that one of the two connectors on the low-pressure switch screwed into the receiver-dryer was corroded and broken off. I replaced it with a good used one and reconnected the system.
Then went to Walmart and purchased a low-cost R134A recharge bottle with gauge (the AC was converted to R134A already when I bought it - as far as I know, this only means installing a low-pressure line or compressor with a nozzle compatible with R134A). I watched a couple of youtube videos on AC recharge and felt pretty confident (it looked really easy). The directions on the bottle were pretty clear too. It's very simple. Just shake the bottle, start your car, put the AC on max, and plug the gauge into the only nozzle that it will fit on. Then start spraying in the fluid. Wear gloves and safety goggles because the stuff is bad news bears if it gets on you. The gauge tells you where to fill to. It took one 18oz bottle to get mine spraying cold, but mine was totally empty. At first the clutch on the compressor did not engage, but when I shook the connector around a little on the low-pressure switch, it started right up. It did not take long before I was sitting in ice-cold air!!! (Included a pic below of ice-cold interior)
